Cards news: March 21 -- Elbow injury will end season for Cease
The St. Louis Cardinals have announced that starting pitcher Dylan Cease will miss the 2029 season after he suffered a damaged elbow ligament in his right arm in the team's 6-2 loss to Cincinnati.
Cease, 33, was coming off a 2028 season where he went 12-12 with a 2.69 ERA in 33 starts for the Cardinals.
In his two seasons with St. Louis, Cease went 21-20 in 63 starts with a 3.51 ERA.
Cease broke into the majors in 2019 with the Chicago White Sox.
He pitched the 2026 season with Atlanta, before signing with the Cardinals as a free agent.
For his career, the right-hander owns a 113-87 record over 288 starts with a 3.80 ERA.
Cease's contract with St. Louis ends after this season, meaning his time with the Cardinals is probably at an end.
