Analysis
We are now 2/3 of the season through, the All-Star game has come and gone, and we can look at the 80 down, 40 to go outlook for the 2304 season. With just 40 games to go, the Roxbury Rad Sox and County Crossing Bloodbugs possess the CBO's two best records. While the Sox have a comfortable lead in the South Charles Association, the Bugs have just a one-game lead on the currently struggling Nordhagen Beach Party Boys. Let's take a look at the Power Rankings.
The Rad Sox are #1, possessing a 60-20 record (.750 winning percentage). The loaded team just does not slow down from game to game, even when they have a "down" stretch. In the last two weeks, the Sox went 5-3, getting swept by Jamaica Plain (#3), sweeping Egret (#20), and then winning two of three at FHE (#12) after the break.
County Crossing is #2 after winning six straight amid a six-game losing streak by the Boys (#6). The Bloodbugs split with Sunshine Tidings (#7), swept Nordhagen Beach, and then swept Finch Farm (#19) for a 7-1 stretch.
At #3, we have the Red Rockets, who went 6-2 the past two weeks and lead the Minutemen League by a game. Jamaica Plain swept the Sox, won two of three at Goodneighbor (#15), and won two of three over Quincy (#21).
The team in 2nd place in the Minutemen League, University Point, is #4. In the last eight, the Deathclaws went 4-4, sweeping Vault 81 (#13), losing two of three versus Atom (#9), and then losing two of three at the Hancocks.
Easy Town rounds out the Top 5 despite being six games behind the Party Boys for second place in the Brotherhood League. In the last eight, the Assaultrons went 7-1, including sweeps of Lexington (#16) and the Four Leafs and winning two of three at The Slog (#23).
Notes: We mentioned trades in the last update, and there have been more with probably a few more to go before the trade deadline in one week. Here are a few known names who have moved on to other teams in the past two weeks:
Fort Hagen obtained SS-turned-1B Wally Warwick (.237/3/21) from Jamaica Plain
The Red Rockets obtained 1B David Driftwood (.283/18/65) from the Shroud
Concord obtained RF Bright Sun Ramos (.285/7/41) from Goodneighbor
County Crossing obtained LF Kurt Kilgore (.329/13/55) from Finch Farm
The Four Leafs obtained LF Delmarva Illeracula (.276/8/33) from the Bugs
County Crossing obtained 1B Zeldolph Violet (.317/14/49) from Starlight
The Lady Killers obtained C Biter Trout (.350/3/47) from the Bugs
All-Star Game
The North Charles Association All-Stars have bragging rights for the year after beating the South Charles Association All-Stars by a score of 4-3 at Drumlin Diner Park in a walk-off win.
South Charles Association star Harry Byrd of Vault 81 played a key role in the win, going 2 for 4 to lead his team despite the loss. In the first inning, Byrd hit a three-run home run over Fort Hagen's Derek Green for a 3-0 SCA lead.
The NCA got its first runs in the bottom of the 4th off Atom's Matt Rodrigue. Starlight's Zeldolph Violet (note: he was traded following the game) led off with a sole home run. With one out, County Crossing's Taygun Topaloglu doubled and advanced to third on his Bugs teammate Babs Rooth's single. Easy Town's Lannie Tykeson then hit an RBI single to knock in Topaloglu.
The NCA evened the score in the 6th with Atom's Scruffy Taguchi on the mound. Nordhagen Beach's Jumper Hayes singled and advanced to second on Red Sone of Sunshine Tidings' sacrifice bunt. With one out, Finch Farm's Pipe Wallcrawler hit an RBI single to make the score 3-3.
In the bottom of the 9th, fans got the thrill they were waiting for. With Jamaica Plain closer Doug Dee El on the mound, three NCA youngsters had their chance to shine. Sunshine Tidings' Baktu DaWell led off with a walk and advanced to second on Finch Farm's Orcin Cardinal's single. After the Party Boys' Maxx Murtagh grounded into a 4-6-3 double play, Concord's Dan Erb walked to put runners at the corners with two outs. Lexington's Hurr Lee Reyes then came up to the plate and stroked the first pitch he saw into center field for the walk-off RBI single.
Byrd was the only player from either team to have more than one hit. Lifetime Byrd has played in 562 games, batted .309 with 91 home runs and 638 base hits.
Other players with extra-base hits in the game included Roxbury's Deerlord Fugivmee and Oberland's Racky Westheim, each with a double.
Sunshine Tidings' Cush Baker was credited with a win, while Dee El was the losing pitcher. Diamond City's Josh Samm struck out two batters in his inning of work, leading all pitchers in success. Six of the nine NCA pitchers allowed no hits in their inning pitched.
