August 22-24, 2053: vs Houston (3)

Game 1: The Rays took a wild 13-8 win over Houston in a game where all the runs scored by the 6th inning. Luis Barela led the way with a 2-run homer (#32) and RBI double, Ezequiel Avalos had a solo shot (#27), and Jesus Avalos, Nesty de la Rosa and Dantel Chinchilla each knocked in a pair. Tim Johnson (9-6) picked up the win but he wasn't very good at 5 7 5 4 2 0, the lack of strikeouts being unusual.

Game 2: Tampa Bay was the dog who could never quite catch the car, falling behind 5-0 before coming back to still lose 7-5. Vinny Miranda (4-11) pitched his usual decent but not good enough game at 5.2 6 4 2 0 2, let down by the defense as he always seems to be and the pen was dreadful with three different relievers allowing a run. David Morales led the ill-fated comeback, driving in 3 with a double and a single.

Game 3
: The Rays are playing some lousy baseball of late, losing their fifth game in six outings after succumbing 5-1 to the Astros. Randy Mastropietro (14-5) lost his third straight start while losing the plate in a 3 6 2 2 4 4 outing on 83 pitches and the bullpen wasn't much help behind him. It didn't matter as the bats couldn't do anything with only Luis Barela's 9th-inning solo homer (#33) standing in the way of a Houston shutout.

Team record: 78-47. The Yankees swept their arch-rival Boston to pull within one game of the division lead, in case you were wondering how things were going. Next up: The Rays will try to get right with 3 at home against a very good 75-51 Angels team.
