September 28-30, 2035: at NY Yankees (3)
The Rays closed out the regular season in typical fashion, winning 2 of 3 (although a sweep would have meant they literally took 2 of 3 for entire season).
Wander Franco had the first 3-homer game of his career as the Rays routed the Yankees 13-4 in the opener. They were all solo shots, giving him 20 on the season and part of a 7-homer barrage from Rays hitters. Also going yard were Joe Stack (#33), Duk-yoon Ko (#2/30), Luis Berumen (#33) and Bobby Marin (#21) as Tampa Bay tries to demonstrate it can survive without Danny Charlton. Ko ended up with 5 RBI as he'll be getting the bulk of the replacement ABs. Joe Marlette finished the year 18-7, 3.06 after a 5 7 2 2 1 6 final regular season outing.
The Rays hung on to win the second game 7-6 behind another big day from Wander Franco. He homered in his first at-bat to give him 21 for the year and 4 in his last 5 AB and finished 3-4 with 4 RBI while Jake Westfall was 2-4 with an RBI. Chris Ferguson started and won to go to 9-12 with a 6.2 5 5 3 2 4 outing in what will probably be his final start for us as he's the odd man out of the playoff rotation and a pending free agent. Devon Williams earned save #23 despite allowing a run.
Jeremy Brooks was given the ball in the regular season finale and was hit hard as the Rays fell 7-1. He allowed 3 homers while going a brutal 3.1 6 7 7 5 6 as his history of underperforming his ratings continued.
Final Regular Season Record: 107-55. Next up: The ALDS against either these same Yankees or the Houston Astros.
