Cards news: July 12 -- Plantar fascitis sidelines Gorman, Diaz recalled from injury rehab
For the second time this season, the St. Louis Cardinals have placed second baseman Nolan Gorman on the 10-day injured list.
This time, Gorman, 29, will be forced to sit after a continuing bout with planta fascitis forced him to exit the Cardinals' 8-6 win over the Colorado Rockies on June 11.
Earlier, Gorman had suffered a mild shoulder sprain during spring training which forced him to sit for a week and miss the start of the regular season.
After a slow start at the plate, Gorman has gained traction in recent weeks.
For the season, he has played in 41 games/40 starts and hit .227 with 13 home runs and 25 RBIs.
Gorman is expected to miss up to six weeks.
Down at AAA Memphis on an injury rehab, shortstop Wilman Diaz is being recalled to the major league club.
Diaz, 25, went down with a knee injury on May 13.
He played just two games with the Redbirds going 0 for 6 with three strikeouts.
In the majors this season, Diaz has played in 31 games/all starts during which he has hit .217 with five home runs and 12 RBIs.
