August 26-27, 2030: vs Washington (2)

Transaction: James Wood suffered a concussion in the previous series and it's pretty bad - he's essentially going to be out 8-9 months. Manny Tovar, whom we claimed from Cincinnati back in July and was OK at Durham (250/317/467) is up - he has some pop and can play all 3 OF positions so he should make a decent backup with Alistair Hardy now taking over the everyday RF job. Meanwhile Wood's very disappointing season concludes at 217/327/389 with 11 HR, his second poor year in a row and his Rays career could be over as I'm not sure I want to pay him ~$4M in arbitration next year.

Game 1: 0-1 L. LP-Evans (11-6, 6 4 1 1 1 8). A gem from Donye was wasted as Washington's Tarik Skubal pitched a Maddux against us, going 9 4 0 0 0 9 on 97 pitches. Thought we might have a chance when Elijah Green led off the 9th with a double but he was stranded.

Game 2: 10-8 W. WP-R.Rodriguez (4-8). Starter-Khattak (4.1 7 4 4 3 2). Today's game was the polar opposite of yesterday's and one of the most thrilling of the year for Rays fans as after the bullpen gave up 4 in the 8th to lose a 5-4 lead, the bats answered back in the bottom of the inning with 5 runs to take the win. Ozzie Albies had his game of the season, going 4-4 with 3 runs scored, 3 RBI and 3 stolen bases and his RBI single tied the game at 8 before Wander, who had been in the throes of a slump, singled in Albies after he stole second for the game-winner. Yordan Alvarez was also 2-3 with 2 RBI and 2 walks as neither team homered despite a total of 18 runs scored.

Team record: 71-61. Toronto split their two games so the lead remains 1 1/2. Next up: The return leg of the home-and-home with the Nats as we play 2 in Washington.
