Game 27: Philadelphia Athletics vs. Boston Americans

On a rainy, chilly night in Beantown, a small crowd of 3,298 fans watched in embarrassment as the Philadelphia Athletics (18-9) thumped the Boston Americans (11-16) by a score of 7 to 0.

Buttons Briggs (4-2) picked up the victory, limiting the opposition to 7 hits and 1 walk in the 121 pitch shutout; Game Score of 74. Jesse Tannehill (2-5) was roughed up again, this time serving up 7 runs (4 earned) on 10 hits in 8 innings of play; Game Score of 43. Jake Boyd mopped up the final inning with a scoreless performance.

The Athletics were led at the plate by George Davis (3 for 4, 2 Runs, 1 RBI, 1 Stolen Base), Bill Coughlin (2 for 4, Double, 1 Run, 1 RBI, 1 Stolen Base), and Larry McLean (2 for 4, 1 Run). Boston's limited effort came from John Farrell (2 for 4) and Chick Stahl (1 for 3, 1 Walk).
