In the top of the third, Menefee scored from first on a Chance single combined with a Donovan throwing error. Chance went on to score from third on a Dolan sacrifice fly.
In the bottom of the third, Donovan scored from third when Dexter fumbled a McGann two-out grounder.

In the top of the fourth, Raymer put the Orphans back up by 2 with an RBI single. Raymer went on to score from third on a passed ball.
In the bottom of the fourth, Heidrick ended up scoring on a steal attempt of third when Chance's throw sailed into the outfield.
In the top of the fifth, the Orphans loaded the bases with nobody out. Green was hit by a pitch to bring home a run. Dexter flew to center for the first out without bringing home a run. McCormick then grounded into the 4-6-3 to retire the side.
In the bottom of the fifth, Burkett brought home a run with a single.
After six: Chicago 5 St Louis 3.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Cardinals loaded the bases with nobody out. Heidrick beat out the 3-6-3 to score Donovan from third to make it a one-run game. Wallace tied the game with an RBI single. Heidrick scored from second when Raymer made a bad throw to first after fielding a Krueger grounder. A two-run double by Padden made it a five-run inning.
In the top of the ninth, Childs struck out for the third time in the game.
The Cardinals recorded 12 hits while the Orphans committed 7 errors in the contest.
Final score: St Louis 8 Chicago 5.
