In the bottom of the first, Harley scored from third on a Crawford two-out infield single.
In the top of the third, Ritchey tied the game with a sacrifice fly. A two-out double by Clarke scored two runs to give the Pirates the lead. Bransfield brought two more home with a triple to complete the five-run inning.
In the bottom of the third, Beckley picked up an RBI with an infield single. Beckley would go on to be thrown out at home trying to score from second on a Crawford single to right with Wagner making the throw. The Reds would load the bases with two out before Irwin flew to right to end the inning.
After three: Pittsburgh 5 Cincinnati 2.
In the bottom of the fourth, Beckley drew the Reds closer with a two-out RBI single.
In the bottom of the sixth, Peitz made it a one-run game with a two-out RBI single.
After six: Pittsburgh 5 Cincinnati 4.
In the bottom of the ninth, still down by a run, the Reds were retired in order to end the game.
The two teams combined for 22 hits and the Pirates also committed three errors but still got the win.
Final score: Pittsburgh 5 Cincinnati 4.
