MLB news: Oct. 1 -- Phillies will at least be a wild card
With an 8-3 win over the Atlanta Braves, the Philadelphia Phillies assured themselves at least a wild-card berth in the upcoming National League playoffs.
The postseason series is the Phillies first since the 2024 season.
At 87-70, the Philadelphia sits 3.5 games in back of the New York Mets in the National League East Division with five games left in the regular season.
In the wild-card race, the Phillies currently own the top-seed as they hold a three-game edge over the St. Louis Cardinals.
Philadelphia last reached the World Series in 2022, when it lost to the Houston Astros.
The Phillies last World Series championship came in 2008, when they defeated the Tampa Bay Rays.
