Cards news: Oct. 1 -- Oblique strain will send IF Nico Hoerner to IL; Olivas recalled from Memphis
The St. Louis Cardinals have placed infielder Nico Hoerner on the 10-day injured list after he suffered an oblique strain during a 4-3 win over Atlanta on Oct. 1.
Hoerner, 32, is expected to miss two weeks, which will rule him out for the remainder of the regular season along with the wild-card round of the National League playoffs should the team advance that far.
In 103 games/98 starts this season, Hoerner has hit .227 with five home runs and 29 RBIs.
Getting called up from AAA Memphis will be 25-year-old infielder Eddy Olivas.
In 101 games this season between AAA and AA Springfield, Olivas has hit .263 with five home runs and 38 RBIs.
Olivas also made his major league debut with the Cardinals during the 2029 season.
Making a start during an August 14 game against the New York Mets, Olivas went 0-for-3 in a 1-0 loss.
