MLB news: Oct. 3 -- Orioles are AL East Division champs
With a 7-4 win over the Philadelphia Phillies, the Baltimore Orioles clinched the championship of the American League East Division.
At 89-68, the Orioles sit 5.5 games ahead of the second-place Boston Red Sox with five games left in the season.
The Los Angeles Angels own a two-game edge over Baltimore in the race for the best record in the AL.
The postseason berth is Baltimore's first since 2027. It last won the division in 2014.
Baltimore has not reached the World Series snice 1983, when it defeated the Philadelphia Phillies.
