Host Beaneaters Drop Pivotal Game 5, Now Trail Series 3-2
When the games really matter, the Brooklyn Grooms put on their best show, beating the Boston Beaneaters by a final score of 11-0 today. Bill Joyce was 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 5. Brooklyn now leads Boston 3-2 in the best-of-7 affair.
Brooklyn relied on the hitting of Hub Collins to pick up the win. The left fielder ripped a 2-run triple in the top of the third inning to put the Grooms on top, 5-0. For the game, Collins had 1 triple and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Joyce.

The Boston Beaneaters and the Brooklyn Grooms will take the World Championship Series to a decisive 7th game. Facing a must-win situation today, the Beaneaters shut out the Grooms 3-0 at Eastern Park to force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. Boston right-hander Harry Staley did his part. He threw 9.0 innings of shutout ball.
Staley went the distance for Boston. He allowed no runs on 6 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 5.

Beaneaters Win 1892 World Championship Series
A celebratory mood filled the air as the Boston Beaneaters closed out the season with a 3-2 victory over the Brooklyn Grooms at Eastern Park to capture the World Championship Series, 4-3.
Giving the Grooms credit for a hard-fought series, Beaneaters players said they believed throughout the postseason that their "destiny" was to be crowned Major League Baseball champions.
"We felt like this was our year all season long," said right fielder Hugh Duffy, who was named series MVP. "It was our destiny to win it and we did."
It was the 4th in franchise history. During the National League regular season Boston put up a 95-57 record and finished second.
"They're the champions and they deserve it," said a dejected Brooklyn manager Monte Ward. "We played good ball, they just played better than us."
