In the bottom of the fifth, Harley knocked in two with a single to break the scoreless tie.
In the top of the sixth, Clarke tied the game with a 426 foot two-run homer.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Reds loaded the bases with one out. Swormstedt went down on strikes for the second out. Harley then popped up to the catcher to end the inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, Peitz gave the Reds the lead back with a run-scoring single. Crawford was then thrown out at home as he tried to score from third on a Dobbs grounder to third.
In the top of the ninth, Zimmer scored from second on a Beaumont two-out single. On the play, Dobbs injured his back making the throw to home and had to leave the game. He was replaced by Harry Bay.
In the bottom of the ninth, Jack Chesbro took the mound for the Pirates. Harley would be thrown out at home as he tried to score from second on a single to center by pinch hitter Algie McBride. With runners at first and second and two out, Bay grounded to first to send the game into extra innings.
After nine: Pittsburgh 3 Cincinnati 3.
In the bottom of the tenth, Snake Wiltse took the mound for the Pirates. Steinfeldt scored the winning run from first on a two-out Swormstedt single combined with a throwing error by Wagner, who had moved to right field.
Th two teams combined for 21 hits in the contest.
Final score: Cincinnati 4 Pittsburgh 3 10 innings.
