Cards news: March 11 -- Spring training -- Veteran catcher Joey Bart agrees to minor-league deal
The St. Louis Cardinals have signed veteran catcher Joey Bart to a minor-league contract.
Bart will compete for the backup position behind starting catcher Drew Romo.
The position became available after Adrian Sugastey suffered a broken elbow which is expected to keep him out for up to four months.
The 31-year-old Bart split the 2029 season between AAA St. Paul and the Minnesota Twins.
With the Twins, Bart played in 45 games/40 starts and hit .211 with 13 home runs and 23 RBIs.
Bart broke into the majors in 2020 with the San Francisco Giants.
He played with the Giants through 2027 when he moved onto the Twins.
Bart has played in 348 games/315 starts during which he has hit .221 with 43 homers and 111 RBIs.
