Cards news: June 15 -- OF Carpenter and reliever Duran shipped to Dodgers for reliever Beeter

With their season in the toilet, the St. Louis Cardinals have made a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers acquiring right-handed relief pitcher Clayton Beeler in exchange for outfielder Kerry Carpenter and righty reliever Jhoan Duran.
Beeler, 31, has been the Dodgers closer, although not that good of a one, recording 17 saves while posting a 5.25 ERA and a 1-2 record in 23 games.
Duran, meanwhile, had started the season as the Cardinals' closer before a series of bad outings knocked him out of the role.
In 20 games this season, Duran has gone 0-2 with six saves and an 8.38 ERA.
In his three seasons in St. Louis, Duran pitched in 208 games going 11-10 with 59 saves and a 3.23 ERA.
For his career, Beeter, has pitched in 272 games/114 starts and gone 44-44 with 46 saves and a 4.54 ERA.
He broke into the majors in 2023 with the New York Yankees.
Beeter also has played for the San Diego Padres, Tampa Bay Rays, Washington Nationals and had two stints with the Dodgers.
Acquired in the offseason as a free agent after playing with the Blue Jays, Carpenter struggled in a reserve role for the Cardinals.
In 27 games/19 starts, he hit just .173 with one home run and seven RBIs.
Carpenter, 32, recently requested a trade.
