Game 47: Washington Senators vs. Boston Americans

A solid pitching performance and timely hitting provided Boston with the basis for the win and its first series sweep of the season. In the 5 to 1 victory, the Boston Americans (20-27) outplayed the Washington Senators (23-24).

Noodles Hahn (5-6) tossed the ball well today, limiting the opposition to 1 earned run on 3 hits and 1 walk; Game Score 78. Rookie (10th overall selection) Doc Scanlan lasted 7 innings in which he surrendered 5 runs (3 earned) on 10 hits and 2 walks; Game Score 43. Carl Lundgren covered the final inning in a scoreless effort.

On the offensive side of the plate, the Americans were led by Fred Clarke (3 for 4, 2 Triples, 2 Runs, 2 RBIs) and Danny Shay (3 for 4, RBI, Stolen Base). The limited offense of the Senators came from Danny Green (1 for 4, Homerun, Run, RBI) and Bobby Wallace (1 for 3, Double). Of note, Clarke's 2 Triples tied an American League regular season record.
