June 17-18, 2036: at Washington (2)

Rays took a split of the 2-game set in our nation's capital and now hold a 3-game lead over both the Yankees and Jays.

Joe Marlette did Joe Marlette things in the opener, shutting down the Nats as the bats feasted as well in a 9-1 rout. Marlette (8-2) was brilliant at 6 3 1 1 2 8 and Jake Bridgewater went the final 3 scoreless, fanning 5 for his 2nd save. It was a well-balanced attack with 7 of the 9 Rays hitters driving in runs, led by Danny Charlton with HR #17 and 2 RBI while Bobby Marin had 3 hits including HR #6 and Luis Berumen added a solo shot (#5).

Danny Morales doesn't have the kind of stuff that affords him being wild, and unfortunately he couldn't find the plate in a 6-3 loss to Washington. Morales (3-5) couldn't make it through the 2nd, going 1.1 4 5 4 4 0 and putting the team in a 5-0 hole. Justin Blackwell had a 5th-inning solo homer (#5) and then in the 9th Joe Stack (#8) and Bobby Marin (#7) hit solo shots to make the final score respectable.

Team record: 39-27. Next up: An off-day then 3 more interleague games in Miami against our Sunshine State rivals the Marlins who are atop the AL East at 37-29.
