Game 56: Boston Americans vs. St. Louis Browns

It always feels good to win, but today's victory was extra special as it brought the team back to .500 on the season. In picking up the 8 to 3 win, the Boston Americans (28-28) dealt the St. Louis Browns (24-32) their 7th consecutive loss. Boston now sits in 4th place in the American League standings, 8 games behind the 1st-place New York Highlanders (36-20).

Jesse Tannehill (8-6) picked up the win, allowing 3 runs (0 earned) on 6 hits, 1 walk, and 2 hit batsmen; Game Score 69. With the win, Tannehill now has 6 wins in his last 7 decisions and has lowered his ERA from 3.62 to 2.54 on the season. Bill Dinneen (1-6) took the loss after allowing 8 earned runs on 13 hits and 1 walk in 8 2/3 innings of play. Bill Magee covered the final 1/3 inning on just 2 pitches.

The Boston hitting-attack was fairly evenly dispersed with Bill Lange (3 for 5, Homerun, 2 Runs, 2 RBIs), Frank Chance (2 for 4, 2 RBIs), and Kid Elberfeld (2 for 4, Run, RBI, Stolen Base) having a fine day at the plate. Bill Hassamaer (1 for 3, 2 RBIs), Jimmy Barrett (2 for 4, Triple), and Charlie Babb (1 for 3, 2 Stolen Bases) performed in the loss.
