Game 61: Cleveland Naps vs. Boston Americans

This was a game that Boston (29-32) should have won. Leading by a score of 2 to 1 heading into the top of the 9th inning, a series of base hits and a rather untimely wild pitch by Cy Young allowed the tying run to score sending the game into extra-innings. A quick meltdown and a 5 to 3 loss to the Cleveland Naps (30-31) was in the books.

Jake Weimer (10-4) went the distance, allowing 3 earned runs on 11 hits, 2 walks, and 1 hit batsman while striking out 7 in a 163 pitch outing; Game Score 63. Cy Young (4-10) was tagged the loss after serving up 5 earned runs on 10 hits, 3 walks, 2 wild pitches, and a hit batsman; Game Score 54.

Cleveland's offense was powered by Jake Weimer (2 for 4, Triple, 2 Runs), Watty Lee (3 for 5, 2 RBIs), and Doc Gessler (1 for 2, Run, RBI, Walk, Hit by Pitch). Boston's contributions came from Fred Clarke (2 for 4, Double, Run, RBI), Danny Shay (2 for 4, Double, RBI), and John Farrell (1 for 4, Run, Walk).
