2305 Nuka Cup

BNN Weekly Report

This Week in the CBO, BMU, and GBRL

2305 Nuka Cup

The 2305 Nuka Cup Tournament has begun with the first week of the new Round Robin underway. There are some surprises and some interesting stories to come out in this first week. We will discuss those below.

This marks the sixth season of the Nuka Cup in this 10th season of the Commonwealth Baseball Organization. In the first four seasons, the tournaments were divided into Invitationals in the 2296 season and then the Battles for the North and South from 2297-2299. The following are past champions of the Nuka Cup:

2300 - Abernathy (now Bunker Hill)
2301 - Nordhagen Beach
2302 - Starlight
2303 - Atom
2304 - Atom

Group A - Roxbury

Roxbury and Starlight had the best week, each winning their series to start 2-0 in the Round Robin. That means each of those teams has the inside track to be the top two teams in the group.

The Rad Sox will face Diamond City and Starlight this week, while the Lady Killers will also face Oberland. Both the Swatters and T-51s may find themselves eliminated if they lose either of their series this week. Next week, they face off, so one of them will definitely be eliminated.

In a matchup of Diamond City's Sheng Kawolski versus Bunker Hill's Hangman Alley, who went 6-15 with a 5.73 ERA in 2304, if I told you one pitched a no-hitter in a 5-0 victory, you would guess Kawolski, right? Not so fast, my friend. The 75ers' Alley gave hope to the newly-relocated franchise, walking three Swatters and striking out four in the no-hit bid.

Group B - Nordhagen Beach

Nordhagen Beach started out the 2305 campaign toying with their opponents, serving as the only team to sweep both opponents. Joining them at the top of the standings is second-seeded University Point which swept Vault 81 and won two of three over Finch Farm.

Both the Dwellers and Four Leafs lost both series, going 1-5 overall. They get to face each other in an elimination series, with Vault 81 also drawing the Party Boys in their first game of the week.

The Party Boys also face 1-1 Lexington, while the Deathclaws with both 1-1 teams in the Synths and Ninjas. That means both the Boys and Claws could clinch their groups faster than any other, assuming they win one or both series this week.

University Point SP Tony Bertha started the season right, pitching a complete-game one-hitter with nine strikeouts in a 9-0 victory over Finch Farm. Pipe Wallcrawlers's 3rd-inning single was the only hit for the Four Leafs.

Group C - County Crossing

County Cross stomped out both Quincy and Salem to start out 2-0 in their group, while Goodneighbor started hot, beating Fort Hagen twice and sweeping second-seeded Atom. Both the Cats and Gunners had a poor week. Those teams play later this week for an elimination series, which may be redundant if they lose their first series of the week.

The Bloodbugs matchup with the Hancocks in the first game of the week, which could prove to be the clinching series. The Bugs also meet up with the 1-1 Silver Shroud. Goodneighbor will meet up with 1-1 Salem.

The Hancocks showed some late-inning offensive moxie, coming back in four of their games, including all three games against Atom. RP Gus Valdez was able to take advantage of two of those games, earning two victories thanks to 3.2 innings of scoreless pitching during those late-game comebacks.

Group D - Jamaica Plain

This group was unique with only one team emerging from the first week with a 2-0 record: FHE. The Yao Guai downed both Concord and The Slog, winning two in each series. That means four teams went 1-1 with only second-seeded Sunshine Tidings going 0-2.

This means that the Yao Guai would have to go 2-0 again and the Chemists would have to go 0-2 for either to officially clinch or be eliminated. However, an FHE victory would put them in a good position heading into their final series against Spectacle Island. the Guai meet the top two seeds in Sunshine Tidings and Jamaica Plain this week.

Multiple players in the CBO hit four home runs in the first week of the Nuka Cup. Only one hit five: Jamaica Plain's Hid Matsumoto. Matsumoto, who hit 24 home runs in 2304, looked good in hitting five home runs, including a two-homer bid in a 5-2 victory over Spectacle Island.

Assuming that the top prospects continue on a CBO path, these are the Top Systems coming into the 2305 season with points assigned to ranked players in the system.
