The Rays and Orioles traded a pair of 3-1 wins and with the Yankees getting the better of Toronto they've moved into second 4 behind Tampa Bay.
The first game went to Baltimore as Rays' bats were moribund in a 3-1 loss.
Danny Charlton's RBI single put them up 1-0 in the 2nd but
Danny Morales (4-6) gave up a 2-run homer in the 6th and that was that. Morales finished a fine 7 8 2 2 0 5 but suffered the tough-luck loss.
Joe Scheu and the bullpen took care of the Orioles in the 2nd game 3-1. Scheu (7-4) was efficient at 7 4 1 1 0 3,
Jadon Smith earned his 14th hold with a perfect 8th and
Eric Lewis picked up save #15 with a perfect, 2-whiff 9th.
Danny Arroyave had the big hit, a 2-run homer (#15) in the bottom of the first after Baltimore scored their lone run in the top of the frame and
Luis Berumen added a majestic 453-foot solo blast for an insurance run.
Team record: 47-30. Next up: 2 games against our newest closest pursuers, the Yankees, in New York.
