We made a few moves prior to the trade deadline. NL home run leader Greg Luzinski was available from the Mets and I offered a prospect that was really not good enough to get Luzinski and they took it. *shrug*. He is a UFA after the season, but he should have had a better return than a 3-star prospect who looks to be too good for AAA, but not good enough for the big leagues.

We also dumped Jeff Burroughs to Mets a few days later for a reliever. Burroughs is due $800,000 next year, so we ate 25% of it as he has hit .200 the last few years and will rot on our bench.

As July ends, we dropped our last 4 and are just 1/2 ahead of the White Sox. Our bullpen is now 5th in the AL and a strength, but our bats have slowed down after the break. The Royals are 5 back, the Mariners 6 and A's 7.

In the east, the Sox lead the Blue Jays by 2 1/2 with the Tigers 5 back. In the NL, the Cubs lead Philly by 3 1/2, Expos by 6, Cards by 7 and Mets by 8. Out west, the Braves and Dodgers are tied with the Giants 2 back.

Mike Marshall won the Triple Crown last year, and thanks to us trading for NL leader in HR and RBI's Luzinski, he has a great chance to win it again. He is currently 3rd in BA, 2nd in HR and 2nd in RBI, but he will pass Luzinski now that The Bull is in the AL
