Game 78: Detroit Tigers vs. Boston Americans

A rough outing by Cy Young resulted in the Detroit Tigers (38-40) topping the Boston Americans (40-38) by a 5 to 2 score to the great sadness 6,166 fans in attendance. The loss moved the Americans back into a tie for 3rd place in the American League standings; 9 games out of the top spot.

Norwood Gibson (10-8) was the winning pitcher of record, going the distance allowing 2 earned runs on 7 hits and 3 walks; Game Score 64. The woes of Cy Young (6-12) continue as he surrendered 5 earned runs on 9 hits and 2 walks; Game Score 51.

The Tigers offense was generated by Freddy Parent (3 for 4, Triple, 2 Runs, Stolen Base), Roger Bresnahan (2 for 4, Double, 2 Runs, RBI, Walk, 2 Stolen Bases), and Tom O'Brien (1 for 4, Homerun, Run, 2 RBIs). Bill Lange (2 for 4, Run, RBI) and Fred Clarke (2 for 3, RBI, Walk) played well in the loss.
