Game 79: Detroit Tigers vs. Boston Americans
Playing before one of its largest crowds of the season, the Boston Americans (41-38) rewarded the 6,567 cheering fans with a 10 to 4 win over the Detroit Tigers (38-41)
Noodles Hahn (9-8) did not have his finest pitching performance, but it was enough to get the victory. Hahn allowed 4 earned runs on 9 hits and 1 walk; Game Score 59 Doc White (12-10) took the place after allowing 8 runs (5 earned) on 8 hits in 5 innings of play; Game Score 26. Stan Yerkes covered the final 3 innings in which he allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits and 1 walk.
A nice balanced hitting display by the Americans, with Fred Clarke (2 for 4, 2 Triples, 2 Runs, 2 RBIs), Bill Lange (2 for 5, 2 Runs, RBI), and Kid Elberfeld (2 for 3, 2 Runs, RBI, Walk, Stolen Base) played well. For Detroit, Charlie Hickman (3 for 3, Double, Triple, Run, 2 RBIs, Walk, Stolen Base) and Freddy Parent (2 for 4) had a respectable showing.
Player of the Game: Charlie Hickman (HUH? Not sure why the game made this selection).
