Raucous League Park I Crowd Propels Spiders to 3-1 Victory; Series Tied at 1
Behind a bravura effort from starter George Cuppy, the Cleveland Spiders topped the Baltimore Orioles by the score of 3-1 today and got their first win in the 1896 World Championship Series. Cuppy threw 9.0 innings of 8-hit ball for the Spiders. The win moves Cleveland into a 1-1 tie with Baltimore.
The tension was thick in the top of the sixth inning. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and Baltimore trailing 3-0, George Cuppy had to get a big out. On a first pitch sinker, he retired Hughie Jennings, who grounded out.
The next game is set to be played for Friday, October 2nd , 1896 at Union Park in Baltimore.

Cleveland Takes 2-1 Lead in World Championship Series
Riding the 3-hit performance of shortstop Ed McKean, the Cleveland Spiders got a road win against the Baltimore Orioles, 10-2, in Game 3 of the World Championship Series today. The Baltimore Orioles topped the Cleveland Spiders by the score of 8-3 and moved into a 2-2 tie in the World Championship Series today. The largest share of the credit belongs to Baltimore starter Bill Hoffer, who threw 9.0 innings allowing 3 runs in the win.

"We're happy," Clarke told reporters after the win. "When you're in the playoffs, you've got to treat every game like it could be your last."

Baltimore Win to Pull Even With Cleveland
The Baltimore Orioles and the Cleveland Spiders will take the World Championship Series to a decisive 7th game. In a must-win situation today, the Orioles beat the Spiders 10-8 at League Park I to force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. Baltimore shortstop Hughie Jennings was 3 for 5 with 3 singles. He drove in 4 runs.
The game was all tied up in the top of the eighth, until Jennings delivered big-time for Baltimore, stroking a dramatic 2-run single off Cy Young. The game-changing hit put the Orioles on top, 10-8.
"We'll put that win in the can," said Jennings, "and go after the next one."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at League Park I in Cleveland.

Orioles Top Spiders in World Championship Series
A celebratory mood filled the air as the Baltimore Orioles closed out the season with a 4-2 victory over the Cleveland Spiders at League Park I to capture the World Championship Series, 4-3.
Giving the Spiders credit for a hard-fought series, Orioles players said they believed throughout the postseason that their "destiny" was to be crowned Major League Baseball champions.
"We felt like this was our year all season long," said right fielder Willie Keeler, who was named series MVP. "It was our destiny to win it and we did."
It was the 2nd in franchise history. During the National League regular season Baltimore put up a 87-45 record and finished second.
"They're the champions and they deserve it," said a dejected Cleveland manager Patsy Tebeau. "We played good ball, they just played better than us."
