McJames, Orioles Take Dramatic Game 1 for 1-0 Series Lead
The Baltimore Orioles started the World Championship Series in dramatic fashion today, stealing Game 1 from the Boston Beaneaters in a walk-off in the 10th inning. Baltimore took the 2-1 win thanks in large part to a good day from starter Doc McJames. The right-hander threw 10.0 innings of 5-hit ball in the win, which gave the Orioles a 1-0 lead to start the best-of-7 series.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the tenth inning, when Baltimore second baseman Gene DeMontreville, facing Kid Nichols, had a run-scoring single. It gave the Orioles the 2-1 win.

"This was a good win for us," said McJames. "It's one more step toward our ultimate goal."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Union Park in Baltimore.

Boston Wins at Home to Narrow Series Deficit to 3-1
Fred Klobedanz was not about to watch an opponent celebrate a championship on his home field.

The left-hander pitched the Boston Beaneaters to victory at South End Grounds today, staving off the Baltimore Orioles, who remain one game away from a title. Klobedanz threw 9.0 innings of 6-hit ball. The win cuts the series deficit for the Beaneaters to 3-1 in the best-of-7 series.

Klobedanz delivered a quality start for Boston. The 5' 11" left-hander allowed 1 earned run on 6 hits over 9 innings of work.

"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Boston manager Frank Selee.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at South End Grounds in Boston.

Baltimore Takes Title
The Baltimore Orioles were good enough to get past the Boston Beaneaters at South End Grounds today and secure the 3rd championship in franchise history.

"When you wear Orioles on your shirt, you're good at something," Baltimore skipper Ned Hanlon told the press.

Orioles right fielder Willie Keeler was named MVP of the series after he went .500 with no home runs and 8 RBI.

"It feels totally incredible," Keeler said. "I could live to 1,000 years old and I'd remember this moment."

The new champions capped off a great season with a 7-3 victory over the Beaneaters to win the World Championship Series 4-1.
