Cardinals Edge Pirates 2-1 to Open WCS
The World Championship Series got off to a quiet start today, with the traveling St. Louis Cardinals taking a low-scoring 2-1 win over the host Pittsburgh Pirates. St. Louis right-hander Jack Powell was marvelous at Exposition Park. The Cardinals now hold a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.

St. Louis used a well-timed hit by Mike Donlin to capture the win. The right fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Cardinals ahead, 2-1. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

"We found a way to get it done," Donlin said.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Exposition Park in Pittsburgh.

Raucous Exposition Park Crowd Propels Pirates to 4-2 Victory; Series Tied at 1
Behind a bravura effort from starter Sam Leever, the Pittsburgh Pirates topped the St. Louis Cardinals by the score of 4-2 today and got their first win in the 1900 World Championship Series. Leever threw 9.0 innings of 7-hit ball for the Pirates. The win moves Pittsburgh into a 1-1 tie with St. Louis.

Pittsburgh took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. With no one out, third baseman Jimmy Williams hit a solo home run that set the crowd abuzz.

"It was a good day but I'm not letting my guard down," Williams said. "I'll let my guard down as soon as someone puts a big, fat championship ring on my finger."

The next game is set to be played for Sunday, October 21st , 1900 at Robison Field in St. Louis.

Pittsburgh Takes 2-1 Lead in World Championship Series
Starter Jack Chesbro was sensational for the Pittsburgh Pirates in his team's 7-3 triumph over the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 3 of the World Championship Series today. Chesbro pitched well, but Pittsburgh picked up the win to take a 2-1 lead in the series.

Tom O'Brien, the 27-year old second baseman , had a direct impact on the outcome. O'Brien contributed a 2-run single in the top of the sixth inning to put Pittsburgh up, 4-3.

"Coach said he wanted eight innings, so I decided to do him one better," Chesbro said later.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Robison Field in St. Louis.

The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates, 13-5 in Game 4 of the World Championship Series today. Making an impact was second baseman Bill Keister, who went 4-5 with a triple and 3 singles. He drove in 4 runs. The win moves St. Louis into a 2-2 tie with Pittsburgh in the series.

Mike Donlin drew 1 walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for St. Louis. In a tie game with one out in the bottom of the seventh, Donlin came through with a run-scoring walk. It put the Cardinals in front, 6-5.

"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Donlin. "And not try to do too much."

Pivotal Game 5 Goes to Host Cardinals, 6-4
Game 5 was big. So was Cy Young.

In leading St. Louis to a crucial 6-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates at Robison Field today, the St. Louis starter rose to the occasion, tossing 9 good innings. Young threw 9.0 innings allowing 4 runs as the Cardinals defended their home field to seize a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 World Championship Series.

The two teams provided some entertaining baseball for the Robison Field crowd. Regardless of the outcome, a good time was had by all.

"Cy is tough when he's hitting his spots," said St. Louis manager Louie Heilbroner.

Game 6 is scheduled for Thursday at Exposition Park in Pittsburgh.

Raucous Exposition Park Crowd Propels Pirates to 7-3 Victory; Series Tied at 3
The Pittsburgh Pirates and the St. Louis Cardinals will take the World Championship Series to a decisive 7th game. In a must-win situation today, the Pirates beat the Cardinals 7-3 at Exposition Park to force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. Pittsburgh right-hander Jack Chesbro had a big role in the win. He threw 9.0 innings allowing 3 runs.

Had Tom McCreery not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, McCreery hit a 2-run triple. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Pirates.

Chesbro said afterward that his team has grown over the course of the season, adding: "It feels good when a plan comes together."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Exposition Park in Pittsburgh.

Pirates Beat Cardinals in World Championship Series
The Pittsburgh Pirates ignited a huge celebration as they beat the St. Louis Cardinals 2-1 to win the World Championship Series.

Pittsburgh won the series 4-3, capturing the title for the 2nd time.

"We stepped it up at the right time, and now we're the champs," said Pittsburgh manager Fred Clarke. "It's a great feeling."

The champs finished the regular season 88-52 and claimed first place in the National League.

In the jubilant clubhouse after the decisive game, series MVP and second baseman Tom O'Brien said the Pirates have "great fans and they deserve this."

"I am so happy for our city right now," he said.
