Game 96: Boston Americans vs. St. Louis Browns
A missed opportunity for the Boston Americans (51-45), as they blew a 10th inning 2-run lead to lose 6 to 5 to the St. Louis Browns (41-55).
Frank Owen (8-6) went the distance, permitting 5 runs (3 earned) on 9 hits, 2 walks, 1 wild pitch, and 1 hit batsman on a total of 167 pitches; Game Score 59. Cy Young was given the nod for the start but did not factor into the decision as he allowed 3 earned runs on 7 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings of play; Game Score 55. Jose Ramos pitched a solid 2 innings in which he scattered 2 hits, while striking out 3 in his scoreless effort. Al Orth (0-2) was tagged with his first blown save after surrendering 3 earned runs on 2 hits and 1 walk.
What a special day for St. Louis Browns 1st-baseman Bill Hassamear as he went 3 for 5 (Double, Homerun, Run 3 RBIs, Stolen Base), and teammates Patsy Donovan (2 for 5, Run) and George Magoon (2 for 5, 2 Runs, RBI) provided additional help. Homer Smoot (2 for 2, 2 RBIs) and Fred Clarke (1 for 5, Triple, Run, 2 RBIs) played well in the loss.
