Chicago Draws First Blood in World Championship Series With 9-3 Win
The Chicago White Sox powered past the hometown Pittsburgh Pirates, 9-3, in the opener of the World Championship Series at Exposition Park today. Chicago starting pitcher Wiley Piatt threw 9.0 innings of 8-hit ball, to lead the charge. The White Sox now lead the series 1-0.
Chicago took advantage of an error in the top of the sixth inning. The game was tied, 1-1, when Fielder Jones hit a 2-run single that was misplayed. It put Chicago in front, 3-1.
"It has been an incredible experience today," Piatt said in the clubhouse following the game. "It's a short list of people who have started in the World Championship Series at all, and an even shorter list who have done a good job of it."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Exposition Park in Pittsburgh.

Chicago Over Pittsburgh in 11-2 Romp
Starter Nixey Callahan was sensational for the Chicago White Sox in his team's 11-2 triumph over the Pittsburgh Pirates in Game 2 of the World Championship Series today. Callahan pitched well, but Chicago picked up the win to take a 2-0 lead in the series.
Clark Griffith drove in 2 runs for Chicago. In a tie game with one out in the top of the sixth, Griffith came through with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It put the White Sox in front, 3-2.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Callahan told the Chicago Times.
Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday at South Side Park in Chicago.

Thrice as Nice: Chicago On Verge of Sweep after Walk-off Win
The Chicago White Sox got a strong game from starter Roy Patterson, but it was some clutch hitting that ultimately delivered the win.
The White Sox took the 2-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates in Game 3 of the World Championship Series in a 10th inning walk-off today. The win capped off a fine outing for the right-handed Patterson. Patterson threw 10.0 innings of 7-hit ball in the win, which gave the White Sox a 3-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the tenth inning, when Chicago catcher Ed McFarland, facing Jesse Tannehill, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the White Sox the 2-1 win.
"I like our moxie," said White Sox manager Clark Griffith.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at South Side Park in Chicago.

Chicago Sweeps Pirates
With a 5-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates at South Side Park today, the Chicago White Sox wrapped up their 1st title in team history.
The White Sox left little doubt who was the better team. Celebrating a banner year, "team" was the word of the day in the victorious clubhouse after the game.
"Hitting, pitching, fielding; those are all things you need to win, but most importantly you need a team, a team that works together toward the same collective goal," said Chicago manager Clark Griffith. "Our players felt that way all year, and they played that way. When one guy had an off day, 24 others stepped up their game and filled the void."
A jovial mood filled the air as Chicago celebrated into the night. The city's mayor said parade plans were underway and a "huge celebration" would be in order.
"I hope they have a big celebration," Pittsburgh manager Fred Clarke said. "They deserved to win this series and they deserve to celebrate it."
