2305 Sole Survivor Series

University Point Runs Away with 2305 Title

The University Point Deathclaws are the 2305 champions, winning their second Sole Survivor Series, both over Nordhagen Beach, in five games.

The Deathclaws had an answer for everything that the Party Boys threw at them and had their pitching step up in the SSS, holding the Party Boys to three total runs in three games at Nordhagen Beach.

The Claws' first championship was in 2302 when they came into the playoffs as the fourth seed but was able to defeat the defending champion Boys in seven games.

While Roxbury seemed to be the team to beat in the CBO, University Point sported the second-best regular season and lost only two games of 11 in the playoffs on their way to the championship. The Deathclaws swept Jamaica Plain in three games in the SCA Semifinals, beat the Egret Ninjas in five games in the SCA Association Championship, and then beat the Boys in five games in the Sole Survivor Series, sporting an 11-2 postseason record.

Game 3: University Point 5 at Nordhagen Beach 2

Road Win Lifts University Point to 2-1 Lead in SSS

Starter Wilson Beachball was sensational for the University Point Deathclaws in his team's 5-2 triumph over the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys in Game 3 of the Sole Survivor Series today. Beachball pitched well, but University Point picked up the win to take a 2-1 lead in the series.

It could have been a different outcome for University Point, had it not been for Austin Engill, the 27-year old shortstop . Engill contributed a 2-run single in the top of the first inning to put University Point up, 2-0.

Engill called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium in Winthrop.

Game 4: University Point 4 at Nordhagen Beach 1

Almost There: University Point On Cusp of Sole Survivor Series Triumph After 4-1 Win

With starter Phlip Wallace leading the charge, the University Point Deathclaws defeated the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys, 4-1, in Game 4 of the Sole Survivor Series today. The left-hander threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium to help University Point take a 3-1 lead in the best-of-7 series.

University Point used the timely hitting of Bobb County to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Deathclaws on top, 2-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

Wallace said his team "played with determination."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium in Winthrop.

Game 5: University Point 6 at Nordhagen Beach 0

University Point Wins Sole Survivor Series!

Sometimes the winner is the one who got the lucky bounces and the lucky calls, and sometimes the winner is just the one who played better.

It was the latter case in 2305, as the University Point Deathclaws topped the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys 6-0 tonight at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium to win the Sole Survivor Series. It was the 2nd title in franchise history.

Starter Tony Bertha and RP John Walden combined for the shutout. Bertha allowed six hits, walked three, and struck out three in 7.0 innings. Walden did not allow a hit and struck out four in the final two innings, earning the save since he entered the game with the Claws up 3-0.

CF Aesed Hayjen had the best game offensively, going 3 for 4 with a walk, two runs scored, and a run batted in. Probable Nuka Hitter Award winner Barker Cocoa was just 1 for 5, but he hit a two-run double in the 5th inning and added an extra RBI for three in the game.

"When you play for championships, you have to play better than the team in the other dugout. We did that in this series, and all year. Now we're the best team in baseball," said University Point second baseman Chris Recore, who was named series MVP.

The Deathclaws took the series 4-1. The new titleholders completed the regular season with a first-place finish in the South Charles Association Minutemen League and an 84-36 record.

University Point manager Woody Lumpkin grinned and nodded when asked to comment on Recore's words.

"Chris said it best -- we played better than the other team," the skipper said.

Hometown officials announced they were already planning a "grand celebration" for the winners in the days to come.
