Casey DeSmith waived and assigned to Utica
November 16th, 2017 -
The Canucks sit at 8-10-0 in what they had hoped would be a bounce back season. They really are playing much better consistently than last season. However, while their shots allowed are middle of the pack their goals allowed are second worst in the league. Markstrom has struggled to find his usual form and is in the midst of his first sub-.900 save percentage season. But Casey DeSmith, through 8 appearances, has an abysmal .863 save percentage and really doesn't look ready for the backup role he won out of preseason.
DeSmith was sent down to Utica where he will likely share the crease with Thatcher Demko, who is having a lights out first pro season so far. Anthony Stolarz, who has been getting a fairly even share of starts in Utica and excelling in his opportunities, will be called up to back Markstrom up.
