I think a lot of futurism highlights vapid consumerism as an overwhelming part of life. Two examples of futuristic oversaturation I can think of right away are
Blade Runner and
Starship Troopers. Well, the consumerism of
Starship Troopers was at least a different take where regular people become a part of the live advertising.
Hell, today, in the real world, I just complained to my wife because I was trying to show her footage of the tornado that hit Fort Lauderdale, and we had to wait for a 60-second life insurance ad before we could watch the 20-second clip.
