Blue Sox Sock Vipers 5-1 In Pro Cup Opener
It didn't matter at all that Blue Lake was playing on the road in Valmara... the Blue Sox rapped out 4 runs and 6 hits in the opening frame of the Pro Cup opener and never looked back in a 5-1 triumph over Valmara... Blue Sox 22-game winner Doug Kirkpatrick never missed a beat after missing a month with a sore arm... Kirkpatrick (1-0/1.00) lacked a little command, but held the Vipers to a run and 6 hits, walking 5 and fanning 3 in a complete-game performance.
Viper starter Garry Gronek (3-2/2.95) was battered in the first, but settled down and surrendered only one more run over the next 6 frames... the Blue Sox collected 9 hits and were led by C Roger Webb (.265) with 2 RBIs... LF Eddie Nagen (.293), 1B Herb Hull (.224) and 2B Skipper Smith (.286) drove in the other runs.
