Game 129: Boston Americans vs. Washington Senators
Well, if there was any hope that a playoff position was still possible, today's game squashed such. Crushed by a 9-run first, the Boston Americans (69-60) stuck their tail between their legs and whimpered to a 16 to 4 drubbing by the Washington Senators (59-70). The Americans are now 8 games out of the top spot and no longer show any % chance ito make the playoffs; Magic #5. This was Boston's 7th loss in the last 8 games.
Ace (and 2-time Platinum Award winner) Rube Waddell (19-16) picked up the win after permitting 4 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits, 1 walk, 2 wild pitches, and 1 hit batsman, while striking out 9; Game Score 69. Sam Leever (18-13) was torched in the loss, getting yanked from the 1st inning after getting 2 outs in which he allowed 9 runs (3 earned) on 7 hits, 1 walk, and 1 wild pitch; Game Score 5. Wiley Dunham pitched 5 1/3 innings of relief, allowing 6 earned runs on 10 hits and 3 walks before he turned the ball over to Bert Husting who allowed 1 earned run on 2 hits in 2 innings of play.
The Senators lineup crushed the ball, with Cy Seymour (3 for 5, Homerun, 2 Runs, 2 RBIs), Doc Casey (4 for 6, 2 Triples, 4 Runs, 4 RBIs), Duff Cooley (4 for 6, 2 Doubles, 2 Runs, 4 RBIs), and Danny Green (3 for 5, 2 Runs, 2 RBIs, Walk) had an outstanding day. Of Note, Doc Casey tied an American League record with 2 triples in regular season game, as well as set the Senators record with 4 Runs in a regular season game. The Americans were led by Danny Shay (2 for 4, Double, Triple, 2 RBIs) and Bill Lange (1 for 1, Run).
