Game 132: Boston Americans vs. Philadelphia Athletics
Honestly, I have no explanation for the complete and utter collapse of the Boston Americans. In the latest defeat (making it 6 consecutive losses and 10 of the latest 11 games), the Americans (69-63) fell to the Philadelphia Athletics (73-59) by a 7 to 3 score.
Cy Falkenberg (14-13) was the winning pitcher today, as he permitted 3 runs (1 earned) on 7 hits, 3 walks, and 1 wild pitch; Game Score 64. Cy Young (12-17) lasted 6 1/3 innings before he was knocked out of the game; allowing 7 runs (5 earned) on 12 hits, 1 walk, and 1 wild pitch; Game Score 24. Willie Garoni and Bert Husting covered the final 1 2/3 innings in a scoreless effort.
For the winning team, Honus Wagner (3 for 4, Triple, Run, RBI), John Titus (2 for 4, Double, 2 Runs, 2 RBIs), and Tom McCreery (2 for 4, 2 Runs) had a great day at the plate. On the other side of the box score, Chick Stahl (2 for 4, Homerun, 2 Runs, RBI, Walk) played well in the loss.
Player of the Game: Cy Falkenberg
