BNN Weekly Report

This Week in the CBO, BMU, GBRL, and Youth Leagues

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

20 August 2306

CBO Analysis

With 100 games down, there are just four weeks remaining in the 2306 season. While no teams have clinched a spot in the playoffs, two teams--Goodneighbor and FHE--know that their seasons are definitely over on September 16.

The race to the playoffs is also not set just yet, though we have a good idea who will be there in the South Charles Association. For the North Charles Association, there are still some questions. We'll break those down in the league updates. But first, here's the Top 5.

County Crossing is again the #1 team after going 6-4 in the past two weeks and taking over the top record in the CBO. The Bloodbugs got swept at Starlight (#9), won two over Nordhagen Beach (#10), split with Bunker Hill (#14), and then swept Salem (#11) on the road.

Sunshine Tidings rises to #2 this week with a 7-3 mark and a five-game winning streak to drop their Institute League Magic # to 13. The Chemists split with the Witch Hats, won two of three at Fort Hagen (#15), swept Easy Town (#5) on the road, and then swept Lexington (#22).

Vault 81 is the #3 team, going 6-3 the past two weeks and now leading in the South Charles Association and Railroad League by 2.5 games. The Dwellers split at Quincy (#19), won two over FHE (#23), split with Goodneighbor (#24), and then won both games at Diamond City (#18) before the third game was radstormed out.

Jamaica Plain comes in at #4 with a 6-4 mark to draw them to within one game of 1st place in a tight Minutemen League race. The Red Rockets swept at the Yao Guai, won two over the Hancocks, split with the Swatters, and then swept the Gunners.

Easy Town rounds out the Top 5 after a disappointing 3-7 stretch dropped them out of 1st place in their own league. The Assaultrons split at Bunker Hill, got swept by the Hats, got swept by Sunshine Tidings, and then won two of three at Finch Farm (#20), scoring 34 games in the three games there.

Brotherhood League

With the Bloodbugs taking over 1st place, Easy Town has to be thinking, "Here we go again." The Assaultrons led for a good portion of the 2305 season before being overtaken by Nordhagen Beach, who also eliminated them in the playoffs. If the Trons cannot find their winning ways soon, they will be staring at the #3 seed yet again.

Salem seemed to be making distance for the #5 seed, but they have struggled a bit as of late, allowing Nordhagen Beach to stick around. Should the Witch Hats hold on to that spot, it would mark the first time in franchise history that the Hats have made the playoffs, including the first two years of the disjointed CBO. Salem is the only team that has never made the playoffs and join Lexington as the only teams never to make the playoffs in the full CBO.

Institute League

it will be hard for Starlight to catch Sunshine Tidings, so we will assume that the Chemists will be the #1 or #2 seed in the playoffs. What may be even harder is for the Killers to hold on to 2nd place since all of Bunker Hill, Concord, and Fort Hagen look as though they are capable of a run. Still, the Killers lead the closest two by 7.5 games with just 20 to play, so their chances of making the playoffs are good.

Minutemen League

Right now, this league is exciting with University Point, Spectacle Island, and Jamaica Plain all within a game of each other. That also means the last three teams have no chance. Both Quincy and Atom should be eliminated by the end of this week.

The Deathclaws are suddenly dealing with some injury problems with the big loss being SS Austin Engill (.227/27/83), who should be back in time for the playoffs. However, it hurts the top offense to lose one of its big hitters in this critical time.

The Rockets have not been the most impressive team for the season, winning a lot more tight games than they should be in. However, they are the hottest team in the ML and look better in hitting across the lineup than most teams.

The Reapers may not have the best overall offense, but they have four guys--3B Diamond Ball (.390/53/113) already with the HR record, 1B Homestay Lovetap (.347/49/118), LF Judas Stoner (.245/38/80), and RF Matt Basile (.234/25/57)--hitting bombs regularly.

Railroad League

Vault 81 is getting closer to making their worst-to-first hopes into a reality. No one player is more responsible for that success than SP Exxie Summerset (18-1, 2.35) who is having a historical season. With an assumed five starts remaining, Summerset is just two wins from becoming the fifth 20-game winner and three wins from tying the league record set by Matt Pageturner (2299) and College Luckyman (2305). Currently, he has a .947 winning percentage, which is way ahead of the previous record of .895 set by Digger Vadim in 2304 when he went 17-2. Summerset could afford a loss and still set the record.

After Roxbury, no other team appears to be playoff worthy. Oberland and Egret are decent teams, but they would have to be much better and go on an insane run to have any chance to make the playoffs. We expect the rest of the RL to be eliminated sometime around the time we report our next update.

CBO Power Rankings

CBO Players of the Week

August 13 - Grool Manycaps is respected by most Bunker Hill 75ers fans for his no-frills style of play. The 24-year-old third baseman went about his business with vigor last week to grab the North Charles Association Player of the Week honors.

He compiled a .429 average (9-for-21) with 3 home runs, 13 RBIs and 5 runs scored.

So far this year Manycaps is hitting .295 with 11 home runs.

It's always a thrill for fans of the team and students of the game alike when a superstar in the making shows what he's got. Magnum Peaeye, the Diamond City Swatters 21-year-old right fielder, put himself in the spotlight last week making him the clear-cut choice for South Charles Association Player of the Week honors.

He ripped 11 hits in 22 at-bats, compiling a .500 average with 2 home runs and 6 RBIs.

In his 2306 season totals, Peaeye has 29 home runs, .361 BA, .401 OBP, 85 RBIs and 71 runs scored.

August 20 - Speak softly and carry a big stick and you could win the North Charles Association Player of the Week Award just like Babs Rooth.

He really dazzled on the diamond this week with a .455 average to take home the trophy. The County Crossing right fielder went 10-for-22, drove in 13 runs, scored 9 times and hit 7 home runs.

So far this year Rooth has 43 home runs and a .332 batting average.

The top-rated player in the South Charles Association this week was a pitcher. Dobbie Radoncis of the Spectacle Island Reapers outdistanced all challengers by leading his team to 2 wins in 2 starts.

Last week he had a 2-0 won-lost mark with an impressive 0.00 ERA.

This year Radoncis has a 13-5 mark in 26 starts with a 4.05 ERA. He has given up 169 hits in 189 innings, struck out 104 and issued 83 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .240 batting average against him.
