Phillies Need Extras to Top Indians, Lead 1-0 in Series
One game in and the World Series is already looking exhausting.
The Philadelphia Phillies and the Cleveland Indians needed 13 innings to settle Game 1, with the Phillies finally taking the 9-5 victory at League Park. Excelling in the win was Philadelphia starting pitcher Grover Cleveland Alexander, who threw 11.0 innings allowing 3 runs. The Phillies and Indians are playing a best-of-7 series.
Philadelphia relied on the hitting of Possum Whitted to pick up the win. The left fielder ripped a 2-run single in the top of the 13th inning to put the Phillies on top, 5-3. For the game, Whitted had 1 triple and 1 single in 7 at-bats.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Whitted told the Philadelphia Bulletin.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at League Park in Cleveland.

Phillies Sweep Indians
The Philadelphia Phillies made quick work of the Cleveland Indians in the World Series, sweeping them aside to clinch the 4th Major League Baseball crown in Phillies history.
Philadelphia sealed the series today at Baker Bowl with a 5-4 victory. During the regular season play, the Phillies notched a 97-57 record and wound up in first place in the National League race.
"I won't say it was easy, because baseball games are rarely easy," said Philadelphia manager Pat Moran. "But I did expect we would have to play a much longer series."
