Awards for September and the regular season and standings at the end of the 1914 season
Regular season awards:
-1B Erve Beck of the Cleveland Naps wins the AL Best Batter award with 5 home runs, 83 RBIs, and 49 runs scored.
-RF Joe Jackson of the St. Louis Cardinals wins the NL Best Batter award with 8 home runs, 99 RBIs, and 95 runs scored.
-SP Walter Johnson won the NL Triple Crown award with a 29-9 record, a 1.76 ERA, and 192 strikeouts.
Awards for September:
3B Red Smith of the Detroit Tigers wins the AL Batter of the Month Award.
3B Fritz Maisel of the Philadelphia Phillies wins the NL Batter of the Month Award.
SP Bill Steen of the New York Yankees wins the AL Pitcher of the Month Award.
SP Walter Johnson of the St. Louis Cardinals wins the NL Pitcher of the Month Award.
SP Ben Tincup of the Chicago White Sox wins the AL Rookie of the Month Award.
SP Stan Baumgartner of the Cincinnati Reds wins the NL Rookie of the Month Award.
Well, the World Series matchup has been determined and, for the third year in a row, it's the Detroit Tigers (88-66) vs. the St. Louis Cardinals (100-54)!!! And, with this season, the Cardinals are only the third team (behind the 1904 and 1906 Pittsburgh Pirates) to get to 100 or more wins.
