Game 1, October 10th, 1914, Robison Field
Road Win Lifts Detroit to 1-0 Lead in WS
The Detroit Tigers powered past the hometown St. Louis Cardinals, 5-2, in the opener of the World Series at Robison Field today. Detroit starting pitcher Slim Sallee threw 8.0 innings allowing 2 runs, to lead the charge. The Tigers now lead the series 1-0.
Chick Gandil provided a timely hit. The Detroit first baseman delivered a bases-clearing triple in the top of the ninth inning to put the Tigers on top, 5-2. It was his only hit in the game, but he made it count.
Cardinals manager Mauricio Martinez did not take questions after the game, telling assembled reporters that he would hold a press conference "if and when we win the World Series."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Robison Field in St. Louis.

Game 2, October 11th, 1914, Robison Field
Detroit Tops St. Louis Again, 7-3
Riding the 3-hit performance of first baseman Chick Gandil, the Detroit Tigers got a road win against the St. Louis Cardinals, 7-3, in Game 2 of the World Series today. Gandil was 3-5 with a double and 2 singles. He scored 2 times for the Tigers, who now lead the best-of-7 series, 2 games to 0.
In the top of the first, Zack Wheat pounced on a curveball from Walter Johnson and hit a run-scoring triple. It gave Detroit a quick 1-0 lead.
"We aren't quitting," St. Louis manager Mauricio Martinez said. "Yeah, the odds are definitely in their favor, but they've got to earn it."
Game 3 is scheduled for Tuesday at Navin Field in Detroit.

Tigers Win to Extend Series Lead to 3-0
The Detroit Tigers are one game away from a sweep after beating the visiting St. Louis Cardinals, 4-2, at Navin Field today. Tigers right-hander Pete Schneider had a standout performance in which he threw 9.0 innings of 4-hit ball. Detroit now holds a 3-0 advantage in the best-of-7 World Series.
Schneider delivered a quality start for Detroit. The 6' 1" right-hander allowed 2 earned runs on 4 hits over 9 innings of work.
"It has been an incredible experience today," Schneider said in the clubhouse following the game. "It's a short list of people who have started in the World Series at all, and an even shorter list who have done a good job of it."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Navin Field in Detroit.

And that was all she wrote on the 1914 World Series. With a 4-3 victory, the Detroit Tigers swept aside the St. Louis Cardinals 4-0 and set off a much-anticipated celebration.
"It was a lot of hard work," said winning manager Ned Hanlon. "But it was good hard work and a lot of fun along the way."
The Tigers were all business this year, with their eyes fixed squarely on the goal of winning the team's 2nd championship. The champs finished the regular season 88-66 and claimed first place in the AL.
"We had our doubters along the way," series MVP Chick Gandil said with a smile. "But we made them eat crow today."
