Trades, awards for July, and baseball standings at the start of July 1917

Trades before the trading deadline:
-The St. Louis Cardinals traded 24-year-old RP Roy Walker and 23-year-old Ca Duke Kelleher to the Pittsburgh Pirates, getting 38-year-old SP Ed Smith in return.
-The Cleveland Guardians traded 23-year-old RP Rube Parnham to the Washington Senators, getting 31-year-old 2B Bill Sweeney in return.
-The Detroit Tigers traded 24-year-old 2B Johnny Rawlings to the St. Louis Browns, getting 30-year-old RP Tex Covington in return.
-The St. Louis Browns traded 32-year-old SP Jack Lively and 23-year-old 2B Joe Gedeon to the Chicago Cubs, getting 24-year-old RF Lee King and 24-year-old RP Harry Eccles in return.

Awards for July:
1B George Sisler of the Cleveland Guardians wins the AL Batter of the Month Award.
LF Ed Delahanty of the Philadelphia Phillies wins the NL Batter of the Month Award.
SP Grover Cleveland Alexander of the Cleveland Guardians wins the AL Pitcher of the Month Award.
SP Art Nehf of the New York Giants wins the NL Pitcher of the Month Award.
SP Hal Carlson of the Boston Red Sox wins the AL Rookie of the Month Award.
SP Dutch Ruether of the Philadelphia Phillies wins the NL Rookie of the Month Award.

In the AL, the New York Yankees lead the Detroit Tigers by 2 games for first while, in the NL, the Boston Braves have a 1-game lead over the New York Giants for first.
