Giants Rally Past Indians to Claim 1-0 Series Lead
The New York Giants powered past the visiting Cleveland Indians, 5-4, in the opener of the World Series at Polo Grounds today. New York right fielder Ross Youngs was 3 for 4 with a triple, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs, to lead the charge. The Giants now lead the series 1-0.
Art Fletcher was the walk-off hero for New York. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Giants shortstop hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"We'll hit the hot tub in good spirits tonight," said Fletcher.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Polo Grounds in New York.

New York Wins Again, 3-2
The New York Giants got a strong game from starter Pol Perritt, but it was some clutch hitting that ultimately delivered the win.
The Giants took the 3-2 win over the Cleveland Indians in Game 2 of the World Series in a 12th inning walk-off today. The win capped off a fine outing for the right-handed Perritt. Perritt threw 11.0 innings of 8-hit ball in the win, which gave the Giants a 2-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 12th inning, when New York first baseman Heinie Zimmerman, facing Jim Bagby, had a run-scoring single. It gave the Giants the 3-2 win.
"Bottom line," said Cleveland skipper Lee Fohl, "we didn't play well enough to win."
Game 3 is scheduled for Sunday at League Park in Cleveland.

Still Kicking: Cleveland Cut New York Series Lead to 3-1 With Late Win
Johnny Enzmann was not about to watch an opponent celebrate a championship on his home field.
The right-hander pitched the Cleveland Indians to victory at League Park today, staving off the New York Giants, who remain one game away from a title. Enzmann threw 12.0 innings of 10-hit ball. The win cuts the series deficit for the Indians to 3-1 in the best-of-7 series.
The game came to a sudden end. In the bottom of the 12th, with one out, Enzmann hit a run-scoring single. It gave Cleveland the 3-2 walk-off win.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Enzmann said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at League Park in Cleveland.

One for the Ages: Indians Beat Giants on 15th Inning Walk-Off
Already down in the World Series, the Cleveland Indians put on their best show, beating the New York Giants by a final score of 5-4 today. George McQuillan was special. He came in in relief and pitched to 22 batters. Cleveland now trails New York 3-2 in the best-of-7 affair.
The clutch hit was provided by Terry Turner. He delivered a walk-off run-scoring double off Ferdie Schupp in the bottom of the 15th.
"Put a star next to this win," Turner said.
Game 6 is scheduled for Thursday at Polo Grounds in New York.

Giants Defeat Indians
It's party time in New York. The confetti is flying and residents are smiling.
The New York Giants have reached the mountaintop, capturing the 1918 World Series today. They defeated the Cleveland Indians 5-4 at Polo Grounds to officially wrap up the series 4-2.
Asked how it feels to be a champion, first baseman Heinie Zimmerman was to the point.
"It feels great, like a million bucks. I'm so happy right now, not just for me but for all the guys," he said. "We put a lot of work into this and deserve to be champions."
The team is planning a victory parade and fan appreciation day later in the week. New York finished the regular season 92-62 and claimed first place in the National League.
