Sole Survivor Series Games 1 and 2
Game 1: Roxbury 5 at County Crossing 7
Home Field Advantage: Rooth, County Crossing Open Sole Survivor Series with Win
The County Crossing Bloodbugs started the Sole Survivor Series in style today, downing the visiting Roxbury Rad Sox at Beantown Brewery Stadium by a score of 7-5 to grab an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Bloodbugs right fielder Babs Rooth was 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2.
Rabbit Forest dealt the Rad Sox a blow in the bottom of the sixth. Batting with the bases loaded and County Crossing leading 4-3, Forest, who finished 5th in the SCA in triples with 7 in 2303, hit a 2-2 fastball for a 2-run single.
"We'll take some time to unwind," said Rooth, "and then get after it again."
Gavin Eviritts was the winning pitcher, allowing five earned runs on nine hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in 7.0 innings. CL Wick Prater pitcher the final two innings to earn the save.
Roxbury's Chris Connexx was 3 for 4 with a home run, two runs, and two RBI. SP Urm Rehfeldt allowed six earned runs in just 5.0 innings of work in suffering the loss.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Beantown Brewery Stadium in County Crossing.
Game 2: Roxbury 4 at County Crossing 5
County Crossing Tops Roxbury Again, 5-4
With starter College Luckyman leading the charge, the County Crossing Bloodbugs defeated the Roxbury Rad Sox, 5-4, in Game 2 of the Sole Survivor Series today. The left-hander threw 6.0 innings of 5-hit ball at Beantown Brewery Stadium to help County Crossing take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. The Bugs have now won all nine playoff games played in 2306.
Had Zeldolph Violet not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Violet hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Bloodbugs.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said County Crossing manager Crow Guai.
Babs Rooth had another good game for the Bugs, going 3 for 5 with an RBI. C Jimjames LaFleur had two hits and scored a run.
Duncan MacCready was the only Rad Sox player with multiple hits. He finished 2 for 4 with an RBI. All seven Roxbury hits were singles. Whokill Poole got the start in the no-decision. He allowed four runs, three earned, on nine hits with two walks and a strikeout in 6.0 innings. CL Andy Helium was the losing pitcher, giving up the winning run in the 8th.
The next game is set to be played for Saturday, October 13th , 2306 at Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury in Roxbury.
