World Series Game 1 Victory for Williams and Chicago
The Chicago White Sox started the World Series in style today, downing the visiting New York Giants at Comiskey Park by a score of 4-3 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. White Sox left-hander Lefty Williams threw 9.0 innings allowing 3 runs.
Had Swede Risberg not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Risberg hit a 3-run home run. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the White Sox.
"I just tried to make good contact," said Risberg.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Comiskey Park in Chicago.

Jackson, White Sox Take Dramatic Game 2 for 2-0 Series Lead
Behind the big bat of left fielder Joe Jackson, the Chicago White Sox have opened up a healthy early lead in the World Series. The White Sox topped the New York Giants 7-6 at Comiskey Park today in Game 2, and now hold a 2-0 edge in the best-of-7 series. Jackson went 4 for 6 with a triple and 2 doubles. He scored 2 times and drove in 3 to power Chicago to victory.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 11th inning, when Chicago center fielder Happy Felsch, facing Colonel Snover, had a run-scoring double. It gave the White Sox the 7-6 win.
"We haven't stopped playing," New York manager John McGraw said. "We didn't get this far to give up."
The next game is set to be played for Monday, October 6th , 1919 at Polo Grounds in New York.

New York Wins at Home to Narrow Series Deficit to 3-1
The New York Giants have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading Chicago White Sox, winning 6-4 at Polo Grounds today. Giants second baseman Larry Doyle went 3 for 4 with 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs. The win cuts the deficit facing the Giants to 3-1 in the best-of-7 World Series.
Art Fletcher dealt the White Sox a blow in the bottom of the first. Batting with runners on 1st and 3rd and New York leading 1-0, Fletcher, who is a five-time Gold Glove Award winner, hit a 0-1 fastball for a 2-run double.
"It was a good day but I'm not letting my guard down," Fletcher said. "I'll let my guard down as soon as someone puts a big, fat championship ring on my finger."

Sometimes the winner is the one who got the lucky bounces and the lucky calls, and sometimes the winner is just the one who played better.
It was the latter case in 1919, as the Chicago White Sox topped the New York Giants 6-4 tonight at Polo Grounds to win the World Series. It was the 2nd title in franchise history.
"When you play for championships, you have to play better than the team in the other dugout. We did that in this series, and all year. Now we're the best team in baseball," said Chicago left fielder Joe Jackson, who was named series MVP.
The White Sox took the series 4-1. The new titleholders completed the regular season with a first-place finish in the American League and a 95-45 record.
Chicago manager Kid Gleason grinned and nodded when asked to comment on Jackson's words.
"Joe said it best -- we played better than the other team," the skipper said.
Hometown officials announced they were already planning a "grand celebration" for the winners in the days to come.
