Cleveland Draws First Blood in World Series With 9-3 Win
The Cleveland Indians started the World Series in style today, winning on the road against the St. Louis Cardinals at Sportsmans Park by a score of 9-3 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Indians first baseman Les Nunamaker excelled. He went 4 for 5 with 4 singles. He scored 3 runs.
Cleveland used the bat of Bill Wambsganss to get the win. The second baseman hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Indians ahead, 5-1. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Nunamaker.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Sportsmans Park in St. Louis.

Home Loss Shrinks Indians Series Lead to 2-1
The St. Louis Cardinals have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading Cleveland Indians, winning 10-4 at League Park today. Cardinals center fielder Cliff Heathcote went 3-5 with 3 singles. He scored 3 times. The win cuts the deficit facing the Cardinals to 2-1 in the best-of-7 World Series.
The outcome was still in doubt in the bottom of the fourth inning. With runners on 1st and 3rd and Cleveland trailing 2-0, Ferdie Schupp needed to get a big out. On a 0-2 curveball, Steve O'Neill, who finished 4th in the AL in on-base percentage with .447 in 1920, struck out, putting the kibosh on a potential rally.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at League Park in Cleveland.

Almost There: Cleveland On Cusp of World Series Triumph After 5-4 Win
The Cleveland Indians got a strong game from starter Guy Morton, but it was some clutch hitting that ultimately delivered the win.
The Indians took the 5-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 4 of the World Series in a 12th inning walk-off today. The win capped off a fine outing for the right-handed Morton. Morton threw 9.0 innings allowing 4 runs in the win, which gave the Indians a 3-1 lead in the best-of-7 series.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 12th inning, when Cleveland third baseman Larry Gardner, facing Mike Kircher, had a run-scoring single. It gave the Indians the 5-4 win.
"We'll kick back tonight and enjoy this win," said Morton.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at League Park in Cleveland.

Cleveland Indians Win World Series
Sometimes the winner is the one who got the lucky bounces and the lucky calls, and sometimes the winner is just the one who played better.
It was the latter case in 1920, as the Cleveland Indians topped the St. Louis Cardinals 12-3 tonight at League Park to win the World Series. It was the 2nd title in franchise history.
"When you play for championships, you have to play better than the team in the other dugout. We did that in this series, and all year. Now we're the best team in baseball," said Cleveland right fielder Elmer Smith, who was named series MVP.
The Indians took the series 4-1. The new titleholders completed the regular season with a first-place finish in the American League and a 97-57 record.
Cleveland manager Tris Speaker grinned and nodded when asked to comment on Smith's words.
"Elmer said it best -- we played better than the other team," the skipper said.
Hometown officials announced they were already planning a "grand celebration" for the winners in the days to come.
