July 21-23, 2031: at Cincinnati (3)

Game 1: 10-3 W. WP-Acosta (3-1, 5 6 3 3 2 0). HR-Franco (5), Albies (14). Albies had a 2-run homer in the first to get them going and drove in 3 total, Wander was 2-4 with a HR & 2 RBI and rookie backup C Cade Arrambide had a big 2-run single as the Rays routed the Reds. Acosta got a rare win despite pitching one of his poorest games.

Game 2: 5-6 L (11). LP-Armstrong (3-1). Starter-Evans (4 6 4 4 1 5, 3 HR). HR-Haro (12), Hardy (19). A heartbreaker for the Rays as they fought back from 4-2 down early to go ahead 5-4 in the 10th on a Hardy homer only for Randy Rodriguez to give up a homer to 40-year-old Nolan Arenado one out away from ending things, and then Armstrong wild-pitched the winner home in the bottom of the 11th. Also Albies charged the mound after being hit following Haro's homer and is suspended 4 games.

Transaction: IF Jose Marsh, up briefly earlier in the year, is called up to take Albies' place on the roster during his suspension while Victor Mesa will fill in at 2B.

Game 3: 4-7 L. LP-Khattak (11-5, 4.1 8 5 4 1 7). HR-Rivera (6). The Rays remain Jekyll & Hyde when it comes to their home/road splits as they fell to 20-28 away from the Trop while 36-13 playing under the dome. After falling behind 6-0, Rivera's 3-run shot got them within 6-4 in the 7th but that was as close as they got.

Team record: 56-41, and with Toronto taking 2 of 3 the Rays' once-healthy division lead has been shaved to 1 1/2 games. Next up: A day off then a welcome return home to play 3 against Baltimore.
