1980 spring training

Don Baylor suddenly can't play 1B. He's now corner OF only. Last year's rating at 1B was 10 (20 scale). In ST it collapsed to 2. I'm heavy on corner OF and Art Howe isn't a strong enough hitter to put at 1B. Traded Baylor for Dan Driessen.

Lee Lacy's 2B rating dropped to 2. Roster has 7 OF and 5 IF (plus Driessen who is 1B only).

These are significant events but are an OOTP issue. There is no plausible real life reason for players to lose so much ability while retaining it for other positions, especially for Baylor. 1B is the last position a player should be able to play.

Due to lack of a plausible real life explanation for these events there will not be a season opening news story.
