August 21-23, 2054: at Baltimore (3)

Game 1: A 4-run 7th broke a 1-1 tie and gave the Rays a 6-1 win over the Orioles at Camden Yards. David Morales' RBI single was the winner but Dantel Chinchilla followed with the big blow, a bases-clearing double. Meanwhile Manny Cervantes improved to 4-1 and recovered from his lone bad outing as a Ray by going 7.1 6 1 1 2 5. Jose Lozada, who had only 3 homers all season coming in, led off the game with #4.

Game 2: The Rays took another comfortable win over the Orioles, topping them 7-2. Luis Barela's 2-run homer in the 1st (#19) staked them to a quick 3-0 lead, and after Baltimore pulled within 4-2 in the 7th, homers by David Morales (#3, solo) and Ezequiel Avalos (#23, a 2-run shot) put the game out of reach. Randy Mastropietro (13-5) went 5 5 2 2 2 4 for the win.

Game 3: Tampa Bay swept the series from Baltimore with their third straight 5-run win and second straight by a 7-2 score in the finale. Sung-min Yang swung the big bat today with a 2-run homer (#23) in a 4-run 3rd and a 2-run double in the 8th. Jose Lozada also homered for the second time in three games after having only hit three all season coming in. Ben Hilton was dominant before leaving with minor back stiffness, going 5.2 1 2 1 4 10 to up his record to 11-5.

Team record: 76-48. The Rays crept closer to the Yankees (7 1/2 back) with the sweep but time is running out and it's not like New York is slumping as they still won 2 of 3 over the weekend. Next up: The White Sox pay a visit to Publix Park for 3 games.
