BNN Weekly Report

This Week in the CBO, BMU, GBRL, and Youth Leagues

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

24 June 2307

CBO Analysis

Every CBO team has now played 72 games, putting us just one week away from the All-Star Break. Some teams have begun to make trade moves, though trades have been much quieter this season than they were last season. Still, there is plenty of time. Let's take a look at the current playoff seeds and then the Top 5.

NCA
1. Easy Town
2. Sunshine Tidings
3. Nordhagen Beach
4. Starlight
5. Salem

The seeds remain the same as they were two weeks ago, though the Witch Hats are tied with Bunker Hill for the 5th spot. Salem has won 3 of 4 in that series, giving them the spot.

SCA
1. Roxbury
2. University Point
3. Spectacle Island
4. Vault 81
5. Atom

Spectacle Island and Vault 81 switched spots. Atom also has Jamaica Plain and Oberland right on their tails. Roxbury struggled the past two weeks, but still hold an eight-game lead in the association.

Roxbury remains #1 despite a 4-6 stretch in the past two weeks, their worst of the season. The Rad Sox swept Quincy (#20), won one of three against Oberland (#10), got swept at Atom (#7), and then lost two of three at Diamond City (#18).

Easy Town bounces up to #2 with the CBO's second-best record. The Assaultrons swept Lexington (#19), won two of three over County Crossing (#15), split at Concord (#24), and then won two at Nordhagen Beach (#5).

Sunshine Tidings is at #3 after an 8-2 stretch in their last 10, tied for the best string in the CBO. The Chemists swept the Bloodbugs, swept the Radstags, swept the Bugs again, and then won one at Concord.

University Point is #4, setting every league leader in the Top 4. The Deathclaws increased their Minutemen League lead to four games after a 7-3 stretch. The Claws split at the T-51s, swept the Cats, won one at the Swatters, and the won two at Atom.

Nordhagen Beach rounds out the Top 5 after matching the Chemists' 8-2 mark in their last ten. The Party Boys swept the Stags, swept Salem (#17), swept Fort Hagen (#21), and then won one against the Trons.

Brotherhood League

This is starting to be a race of two teams, with Easy Town holding a three-game lead thanks to the series win over the Party Boys this past weekend. Had Nordhagen Beach swept the series, they would be a game up.

The rest of the league is fading, with the defending champion County Crossing Bloodbugs now in 5th place. Still, they are only two games back of the 5th seed in the NCA and would be just as dangerous as ever should they make the playoffs. Nahant has shown some life, but our bets would be on the Bugs.

For Nordhagen Beach, they are a historical Beachboy Nut from being the favorites in the NCA. Nut (5-3, 4.54) has been struggling since May 30 really when he gave up nine earned runs in a game versus Starlight. Entering that game, he had a rather high 3.52 ERA, but has seen that number increase an entire point. Should the Boys get a change in the second half of the season, there may not be very many chances to beat them.

Institute League

Unlike the BL, the IL seems to have only three teams with any chance for success in 2307. Realistically, only Sunshine Tidings has a shot at a title, though Starlight and/or Bunker Hill could win a series or two in the playoffs. Lexington, Fort Hagen, and Concord should start reloading for making a run in future years.

For the Killers, they are 2nd only to the 75ers in runs scored (376) in the NCA. 1B Oren Gep (.277/24/75) is looking like a Nuka Hitter candidate, while CF Glenn Higinbotham (.293/13/56) and LF Goody Cloyse (.263/14/45) have provided some pop to a team that is decently good throughout the lineup. For pitching, the bullpen has struggled, currently 10th in ERA (5.21), so Starlight may be active to upgrade that unit, making them more legit heading into August and September.

Minutemen League

This league once had a tight race, but most teams have now settled in to who they are. University Point is the obvious best team, and the next two should include both Spectacle Island and Jamaica Plain when the season is done. Quincy had a nice start, but they went 7-15 in June and are now 1-4 so far in July. They can start looking to upgrade their prospects pool.

Spectacle Island is a team we are still not sure about. While they are currently the 3rd seed in the SCA, they are not showing dominance in either hitting or pitching. They are 6th in runs scored (351) and 5th in runs against (332). Their offense is mostly the big three of 3B Diamond Ball (.358/22/64), 1B Homestay Lovetap (.281/27/59), and RF Judas Stoner (.283/21/54). C Ayag Mour (.235/7/20) is actually their worst hitter, though he has come on, hitting .250 with 6 home runs and 11 RBI since joining the Reapers.

Railroad League

Outside of the Rad Sox, no team has really stepped up to take command. Vault 81 seemed to have done that, but recent struggles leave them just one game up on Oberland for 2nd place. The rest of the league can start offloading older talent for younger guys.

For the T-51s, they are doing well on offense, including being 3rd in runs scored (391) and 1st in batting average (.287). RF Orcin Cardinal (.346/26/69) is the star of the squad, with good showings for 1-7 in their lineup. SS Stormin Normin MacDonald (.291/10/32) will be returning to the lineup following the All-Star Break, which will make that number as good 1-8. Add to it that 1B Chase Doctorman (.257/13/43) has had a down season, and any increase in his production could make Oberland really dangerous.
