Update: there is one different file in the stats folder of 25 vs 24.
stats_player_teams.odb is in 25 but not 24.
The reason I have to change names is that I have to copy the old save game into 25. So I f I named it Blue Jays ('77), when I try to import the game as Blue Jays ('77) it says there is already a game called that there. So I renamed it Blue Jays (1977).
I had to do that with all my games, but only the two that started as Historical games have this issue.
